As the global landscape of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) evolves, so must the tools we use to evaluate it. The AD Atlas was created to deliver transparent, data-driven insights into healthcare infrastructure, diagnostic readiness, and policy frameworks worldwide. In our latest platform release, we are expanding our global coverage, refining our scoring framework for greater accuracy, and tracking the real-world rollout of next-generation Amyloid-Targeting Therapies (ATTs).
Expanding Our Global Reach
What began as an initial launch covering 80 territories was soon updated to 102. With the latest update, we are adding an additional 35 territories to the platform. This expansion brings our total coverage to 137 regions, offering a far more comprehensive look at dementia care across diverse economic and political landscapes – bringing us closer to mapping the entire globe.
This latest expansion significantly expands our data coverage across Europe, the Americas, Africa and Asia. Key additions to the platform include countries such as Ireland, Vietnam, Costa Rica, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Zambia, alongside territories such as Sint Maarten, the Cayman Islands and Gibraltar. By incorporating these additional countries and territories, ranging from Iceland and Luxembourg to the Bahamas and Sri Lanka, the platform delivers an increasingly comprehensive resource for global health policy comparison.
Refining Our Rating System: 0-Stars and Half-Stars
Healthcare ecosystems are rarely black and white. To reflect real-world nuances more accurately, we have recalibrated our scoring system across all four core pillars:
- Diagnostic Pathway: Speed, accuracy, and diagnostic technologies used.
- Treatment Access: Reimbursement, specialist distribution, and health system readiness.
- Caregiver Support: State support, legal protections, and financial relief for families.
- National Policies: Government commitment, funding longevity, and policy integration.
To increase precision, we have introduced 0 Stars to represent an absolute void – situations where infrastructure, support, or state recognition is completely non-existent. We have also added Half-Stars (0.5 increments) across each pillar. This allows us to capture critical nuances, such as when a country meets advanced diagnostic standard overall, but suffers from stark urban-rural disparities in specialists access.
Tracking Amyloid-Targeting Therapies (ATT): Availability & Real-World Usage
With disease-modifying treatments reshaping neurodegenerative care, tracking Amyloid-Targeting Therapies (ATTs) is a key focal point of the Atlas. Regulatory approval does not automatically guarantee patient access. The updated Atlas highlights the gap between drug authorisation and practical availability, specifically tracking state reimbursement decisions and coverage policies that determine real-world patient access across different regions.
